Crane Creek Fish Passage
Watershed Restoration Project (2004)
Salmon License Plate Funds $78,821
Total Project Cost $197,876
Installation of large in-stream logs and grade control structures throughout the Fremont National Forest provided valuable native fish habitat in the upper reaches of Crane Creek. A few miles downstream, however, redband trout and other native species were once barred from benefiting from the improvements by a series of impassable culverts. Severe road erosion at the culverts encouraged the Lake County Road Department to partner with ODFW in seeking a common solution to the road erosion problem and the lack of fish passage. Through salmon license plate funds from OWEB, two steel bridges were acquired and placed, allowing for fish passage to the headwaters of Crane Creek. Now redband trout in Crane Creek are free to travel upstream through three miles of improved fish habitat.
